Why Nutrition?

...and why now?

The Covid pandemic for me was a slow-down and micro vision into the ways I work and move in the world. Without endless distractions of running a business, I was able to see where I busy myself to the point that deeper emotional currents are not felt or even known. This slow down created the space for me to know and feel them. I found deep levels of knowing myself and what really matters to me; a sense of community, a spiritual life, relationships with friends and family, and my relationship with myself my own body. During these past few months, I made a commitment to myself to workout 5-6 days a week (this is not hard for me), to meditate daily, to get 8-9 hours of sleep a night and to stay in contact with the people that matter most to me. I did not do all of these things perfectly, but I did them really well. I look at my apple watch, see that I have closed all my rings for activity and my sleep app says that I’m killing it, and yet, I still don’t feel like I’m winning here. So, why am I talking about all of this while introducing a nutrition program? Because I know what it’s like to not feel good in my body, and I want to. And I know what it’s like to apply a solution that works and I want that for you – if you want it for yourself. Despite working out daily, meditating, tending to social relationship and sleeping well, I felt less vital than I ever have. I don’t think I am alone here. My nutrition, though generally considered “good”, was the only factor that I did not account for, and manage, during this time. And like many people, I found myself eating more than I normally would, eating foods I normally don’t and not “dialing this in”. It feels vulnerable, as a woman, as a gym owner and athlete to say, “I need help here, with food”, but it’s true. As an athlete, I need a coach for my fitness and sport. Also as an athlete, and human, I need a coach for my nutrition. I am going to be 53 years old this year – my body is changing. And how I feel in my body is changing too. I don’t necessarily know the right food formula for this stage of my life – with my desire to be vital, fit, strong and alive. I imagine that we all want this. So, knowing that I needed a solution not just for me but something we could offer to you, our members, we have put together a program that is effective, simple and more of a journey than a destination. I have been through this program and know it works. The Pittsburgh FIT nutrition program is a simple 3 step coached process:

  1. Planning – we will help you plan your meals, your timing, what works for you.
  2. Accountability – we will help you feel accountable not just to your coach, but to yourself.
  3. Measure – the data doesn’t lie. We will provide you with the tools needed to track your progress, make tweaks where necessary and celebrate the results with you.

We have big things planned, and it's all for you! We can't wait to introduce you to the newest member of our team: our staff Dietician! Stay tuned for more info!
