STOP! Manage Your Stress

Stress can be as detrimental to your health as eating poorly. Rising cortisol levels, decreased sleep, lack of focus, anger. All of these things will impact your health. I know it’s not Mentality Monday, but I wanted to give you an easy technique to reduce your stress.All you have to remember is STOP!S - Slow down. Take a second to actually process instead of react. This step alone can save you hours of frustration, having to apologize for reacting, and you always have time to think.T - Take a BreathWe use this que during workouts often. Collect yourself. Oxygen is a performance enhancer, so let it do it’s job. This can also let people know that just because you aren’t responding immediately, you are still engaged with them. O - ObserveWhat is actually happening? What do things look like around you? Is it overly tense? Is there actual danger or is it just perceived? If you’re working on a thinking problem, does it have to be solved this second? Probably not. You can at least take 10-15 seconds to regain your composure.P - ProceedNow that you’ve given yourself a chance to to process and think about what’s happening it’s time to respond.It sounds silly but try it. When you’re frustrated take a second. It’ll feel weird at first making people wait because it’ll feel like you’re slowing things down. You are, and that’s the point! But you’ll build a reputation of someone who responds with value and you will be listened to. Coach Anth
