Stress can be as detrimental to your health as eating poorly. Rising cortisol levels, decreased sleep, lack of focus, anger. All of these things will impact your health. I know it’s not Mentality Monday, but I wanted to give you an easy technique to reduce your stress. All you have to remember is STOP!S - Slow down. Take a second to actually process instead of react. This step alone can save you hours of frustration, having to apologize for reacting, and you always have time to think.T - Take a BreathWe use this que during workouts often. Collect yourself. Oxygen is a performance enhancer, so let it do it’s job. This can also let people know that just because you aren’t responding immediately, you are still engaged with them. O - ObserveWhat is actually happening? What do things look like around you? Is it overly tense? Is there actual danger or is it just perceived? If you’re working on a thinking problem, does it have to be solved this second? Probably not. You can at least take 10-15 seconds to regain your composure.P - ProceedNow that you’ve given yourself a chance to to process and think about what’s happening it’s time to respond. It sounds silly but try it. When you’re frustrated take a second. It’ll feel weird at first making people wait because it’ll feel like you’re slowing things down. You are, and that’s the point! But you’ll build a reputation of someone who responds with value and you will be listened to. Coach Anth
