Some workouts are just workouts. Murph is not one of them.
On Saturday, May 23rd, we're doing something we do every year for over a decade around Memorial Day, and every year, it means a little more than the last.
Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. He was 29. Before he died, he was known to do a workout he called "Body Armor":
A one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and another mile to finish. All of it in a 20-pound vest. We call it Murph now, in his honor. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously, the first Navy SEAL to receive it since Vietnam.
We don't do Murph because it's a good workout. We do it because hard things done together mean something. Because showing up when it's uncomfortable, when you could easily stay home — is exactly the kind of proof you need that you're capable of more than you think.
That's what this day is about. Not a PR. Not a perfect score. Showing up, doing something hard, and finishing. With your community around you.
